Summertime Saga begins with a death that never feels fully explained. The protagonist's father is gone, the family has inherited his financial trouble, and dangerous people are expecting the debt to be paid. What follows is a sprawling adult story set across the town of Summerville.
The central mystery gives the game direction, but the town is the real attraction. Students, teachers, neighbors, workers, and other residents each have their own stories. You can focus on one character, move between several routes, work for money, raise useful skills, or explore until a new event appears.
Its freedom and unusually large amount of content make every playthrough feel personal. The hand-drawn characters give the game an identity of its own, while the mix of comedy, mystery, romance, and mini-games keeps the long sandbox adventure varied.
