Journal Monstrae
Journal Monstrae gives you a noble job and a terrible commute. Humans hide in scattered hamlets because the Monstrae are dangerous, but someone still has to carry their letters and look for the missing. That someone is you, a curious new Seelie from Gothspell. Every trip beyond home offers another place to discover and another creature that might see you as prey.
I like the contrast between its sweet art style and how threatening the journey feels. The monsters have memorable designs, while craftable spirits give you a way to assemble a party around different strengths and weaknesses. Adult defeat encounters are part of the appeal, but the setting and courier premise have enough character to carry the game between them. The main quest can be completed in the version described by players, with room for more adventures later.
The trouble is getting through repeated fights without wearing yourself down. Losing can drain the protagonist's levels and stats, and crafting replacement spirits takes more materials and battles. Some players also report confusing menus, unclear progression, and weak controller support. The danger suits a world full of predators; the time spent rebuilding your party after a setback is less fun. If that sounds manageable, there's a distinctive fantasy RPG here beneath the grind.
