Back to the Roots follows a developer whose career falls apart after his app is stolen, sending him home for a fresh start. Several women already have a history with him, and their conversations gradually bring those connections back into view. The game mixes hometown catch-ups with animated sex, harem drama, threesomes, and some girl-on-girl action. There are mature women and different personalities to get close to, though the quests guide most relationships toward sex. The result is a fairly directed harem story presented through a sandbox of work, visits, and character events.
The girls are hot, and their banter gives the game much of its personality. The harem also runs into some drama as the women work out how they feel about the situation, giving them a role in how the relationships come together. Group scenes and a little yuri add variety to the sex, while the Koikatsu designs give everyone a cute anime look. Incest themes are included too.
Some encounters move very quickly, so don't expect a long seduction before every scene. The animation quality varies, and the English occasionally needs a second read. There are also plenty of interactions still marked as unfinished. But if you're into Koikatsu girls, group scenes, and a cast that can be fun to hang around with, the homecoming has its appeal. Just expect to follow the connected questlines rather than freely pick one woman and ignore the rest.
